In manga we can see characters drooling for many different type of things.
Some for food, other for money and there are some drool on the thought of cute girl...
Well why do they drool? The definition of drooling is like said in the above, excess production of saliva. For food is it still logical, as our mouth is preparing us to eat hence secreting saliva to wet our mouth and the food that yet to come...
But what about money and cute girl?
U not going to eat them why do we still secret saliva due to it?
It is weird... So I define drooling as a sign of desire
When u hope for something and want to get it badly u will start to drool even if it is a bit only...
I do drool.... yes... and is very bad.... there was once i drool all over my face.....
I drool when i nap.... This is so disgusting...
When I nap... it is very different from how i sleep... When I nap i will sleep on my belly, hence face on bed... when wake up u can see my bed sheet wet... ONLY A SMALL PART no bigger than a 50cents coin.
I love to sleep... and only nap when i really tired... I put it under desire i guess...
Though u can say when ur face is face down u saliva cannot go back down ur throat hence coming out of you mouth....
But i still think is the desire to slp...

this is one of the many things that escapes me. dun remember drooling for anything before.
hmmm in skl sitting beside u after my 4days band camp..damn tired..LOL
